Margaret graduated from Niagara College in 1979 in the Legal Assistant diploma program and was
admitted as an Associate Member of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario in 1993. She has
provided legal services in a law firm environment in both Toronto and since 2001 in the
Niagara Region. She has been designated as a Certified Expert in Corporate Law by the
Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario.
Margaret has extensive experience in assisting in all aspects of corporate/commercial transactions,
interviewing clients, attending to legal due diligence, corporate searches, attending on closings
and the management of all corporate records and governance procedures. She is also experienced
in the procedures and drafting of all documentation relating to incorporations, amalgamations,
continuances, amendments, rollovers, corporate reorganizations and financing. Her experience
in the not-for-profit sector includes assisting in the drafting of incorporating documents,
by-laws, minutes, notices of meetings, resolutions and regulatory matters. She also has extensive
experience in assisting with the completion of all aspects of residential and commercial real estate,
including interviewing clients, preparation of contracts, planning matters, reviewing title
searches and drafting letters of requisitions, attending to the title insurance applications
for various title insurers, completion of all closing documentation and correspondence including
E-reg procedures, attending to closing, reporting and accounting.
In 2002, Margaret participated in discussions with members of various legal organizations
under the facilitation of Charles Harnick which resulted in a consultation document that
identified areas of agreement between various legal organizations and the paralegal profession.
She also consulted with and provided background material for Professor Frederick H. Zemans of
York University in drafting the Paralegals Ontario: Research Report.
In October, 2006, Margaret was appointed by the Attorney General for the Province of Ontario
to the Paralegal Standing Committee of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Since that time she
has participated in the development of the regulatory framework for paralegals. She has also
been sitting as a panel member of the Hearing Panel and Appeal Panel for the good character
hearings of paralegal applicants.
Margaret was one of the founding directors of the Professional Paralegal Association of Ontario
and during her two terms as a director held the position of Vice President and Secretary. She
participated in the development of a code of conduct, membership criteria and a mandatory
errors and omissions insurance program for the paralegal profession. Margaret served as a
director of the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario and during her term was the editor of
the Law Clerks Review.
Margaret lives with her family in the Niagara Region.
